LOS ANGELES – November 22, 2021 – Black Girl Film School (BGFS) announced today that the school had received a grant from Pearl Milling Company.

Pearl Milling Company selected 14 organizations to receive grants ranging from $25,000 to $100,000 to help fund programs that support its mission. The grant provides funds to train young women, especially minority girls, to learn the art and practice of production jobs “behind the camera.” BGFS is dedicated to providing training and technical skills for girls from underserved schools and communities who are seeking to advance their education in film, television, gaming and various digital platforms.

“BGFS is thankful to the Pearl Milling Company for awarding us this grant,” said the Founder and Executive Director of Black Girl Film School, Jayda Imanlihen. “We are so proud to be honored as members of the inaugural class of P.E.A.R.L pledge grantees. Our team will use the support to continue our mission of providing training and technical skill development that allows girls, especially minority girls, to be represented behind the camera.”

Black Girl Film School is a collection of media experts and “below the line” crew. The school’s goal is to increase the number of skilled Black women working behind the camera in the film industry. The school’s curriculum is delivered online and one of its goals is to provide school districts around the country with quality ethnic studies courses that every student can take. The learning experience is 100% free to the student. BGFS programs specialize in areas of film production that take place behind the camera, with the goal to land women in executive and below-the-line productions jobs. BGFS supports STEM and STEAM learning for girls 13-17 years of age.

Pearl Milling Company’s Advisory Council was instrumental in identifying grant recipients. The council includes influential women and industry thought leaders with a personal interest in uplifting Black women and girls.
